Send In
In Send In, 2005/2006, Katz is barefoot and drawing with chocolate, feet first. Each footstep utters another mark as the artist spins around the paper beneath her to the point of falling. She is also moving in circles, perpetually wrapping rope around her body. She is trapped in the act of self-binding, recalling the work of Irish performance artist Nigel Rolfe who wound himself so tightly as to form a gigantic ball of rope. Two monologues performed by Katz are heard in the videos: Zippers and Phantom Car, she is also singing parts of Stephen Sondheim’s hit song Send in the Clowns from the play A Little Night Music. The performance is both a chase scene and the site of self-entrapment. The performance has an element of improvisation. Performance: Approximately 45:00
